Proteins are necessary in your pets diet, as their body cannot synthesise all the amino acids they need (essential components of living cells) and must obtain them from their food. Only high quality proteins, as used in our range, have a good balance of all of the essential amino acids. However, too much protein in the diet can lead to its conversion into fat so the level of protein content of food should be considered at specific life stages of your pet.
Fats, mainly derived from animal fats and seed oils, provide the most concentrated source of energy. They supply essential fatty acids that cannot be synthesized in the body and serve as carriers for important fat-soluble vitamins. Essential fatty acids are necessary to keep your pets skin and coat healthy.
The high quality carbohydrates within our food come from grains, vegetables and plants and are directly absorbed and do not need to be digested by enzymes (which dogs cannot produce). In many other dog foods grains are substituted for protein as a cheap filler, and not as a source of carbohydrate.
Vitamins are required in small amounts for many metabolic processes. Most vitamins cannot be synthesized by your pet's body and need to be supplied within the food in the correct quantitites.
Minerals are essential inorganic compounds necessary for life, which cannot be synthesized by your pet's body. Our food contains all the Vitamins and Minerals your pet will need. Calcium and phosphorous are crucial for strong bones and teeth. Magnesium, potassium and sodium are required for nerve impluse transmission, muscle contraction and cell signaling.
Only very small amounts are needed as excess can result in ill health as they can be toxic in high doses.
Essential. An animal cannot survive for longer than a few days, or even hours without water. There is a continual loss of water through skin, urine, faeces and breathing, and this must be replaced either as fluid or through the breakdown of food ingested. This is the reason why it is most important that an adequate supply of fresh water is always available to your pet.
