This exquisite small bible (4 inches, by under three inches, and about 2 inches thick) is covered in red material, which may be leather but I am not sure. The cover is gilt marked, and the page edges are all gilt. The endpapers are coloured. The condition is very good. The only entry is in beautiful script, with decorations, set at an angle across the first flyleaf. The name is Elizabeth Woodhams, and the date 1830. The main part of the graphic is a dove in flight, in the centre of which is inscribed "The gift of the Reverend Mr St Aubin" The whole page is surrounded by a black rectangle. I am not sure if this is a memorial bible because of the black line, or whether the drawing is a blank into which the inscription has been written, but it doesn't feel like that. It feels like a single entry in beautiful work. There are no other marks in the bible that I have found, so who is Elizabeth Woodhams and why would a bible be inscribed to her in 1830?
