This Bible is now SOLD.  This family bible was published in 1873, and the front flyleaf has an inscription recording the gift of the bible, in good handwriting, to John Dolby, with best wishes from the Rev H. Sanders, at Skidby (?) in December 1874. The family records start on the flyleaf for the New Testament, with the birth of Martha Ann Dolby in August 1874, so perhaps this was a baptism gift from the minister to the young family. Thereafter there are seven more children listed on this page, and the deaths of two of them. Round the edge of the page are written the death of Thomas Dyson, and the marriage of John and Hannah. The records continue in the back flyleaf for about nine children and some deaths. Unusually, on the inside of the front cover are pasted two newspaper notices. One for the death of James Wakelin with a manuscript "1902" written on it giving notice of his burial at Hedon Road cemetery, and the other for the marriage of Fred Richardson to Martha Ann Dolby in Beverly on 12 August (no year). The bible is a medium size copy, about 11 inches by 6 inches, and about three inches think. It is in good condition, with a heavily embossed cover. The front cover is detached for about 2 and a half inches at the bottom, but otherwise securely attached. A few pages have their corners creased in (not for remembrance, but all together). Overall a very nice, genuine family bible with entries written in at the time they happened.
