This bible has been sold.  A nice bible with charming but erratically written family entries.  This medium-sized bible has a nice brown-coloured cover, though it is well used and worn. On the inside cover are written the birth entries for four Hardwick children, in a flamboyant, but scrawly hand-writing, with no sense of a margin. The dates range from 1871 to 1880 and appear to be a list of siblings. On the flyleaf there are two entries for what appear to be Matson births, written in another hand, and both dated 1867. These are followed on the page by a statement about a grandmother, but it is not clear who is being referred to. Then two entries without dates saying "Ann Matson, Rounds, Northamptonshire" and "Ann Hardwick, Stanwick, Northamptonshire" in the original hand of the front cover. In the back cover Ann Hardwick has written (below the word "London", a short verse about stealing the bible, and her name and place of Stanwick. The bible was published in 1865, just before the first entry in 1867 by Ann Matson. I believe this to be the bible of the John Hardwick family, a labourer of Stanwick, and who lived in Church Street, Stanwick, in 1891, where one child worked in the local shoe trade for which Northampton was famous.
