Under cover: (cloches, cold frames, polytunnel & unheated greenhouses – you may well need fleece for the cold nights for extra protection). 

  • Beetroot
  • Broad Beans
  • Broccoli Raab
  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflowers
  • Florence Fennel (Finale)
  • Kale
  • Leaf Beet Perpetual Spinach
  • Leeks
  • Lettuce
  • Onions, Spring Onions & Welsh Onions
  • Orache
  • Rhubarb
  • Shungiku
  • Spinach
  • Peas (hardy and early ones in mild areas)
  • Radish

For leafy salads grow as cut-&-come-again (cloches, cool green house or cold frame or window sill pots):  cress, chicory (sugar loaf), corn salad, endive, Komatsuna, lettuce, kale, mizuna, rocket, senposai, orache, pak choi

Outside: but only in mild areas in mild weather

In the warmth: such as a window sill or heated greenhouse:  as we said last month take care not to chill seedlings at night (a window sill behind a closed curtain can be much colder than the room) or to have them too wet.
