Long, broad and tender leaves that develop into a tasty, rich dark green. Try braising with olive oil and garlic and serve with chops for a winter feast. Champion is a compact collard, growing 40-45cm, is quite winter hardy and suitable for autumn sowing in most areas. It is also bolt resistant for spring sowing. Allow 12-14 weeks for it to reach full size but individual leaves can be picked when younger. Price for 20 seeds

SOW: Champion is quite winter hardy and suitable for autumn sowing in most areas. You can also sow this bolt resistant variety March to May to harvest from June onwards.  Sow the seeds approximately 1cm deep in modules

GROW: when large enough to handle you can transplant, after hardening off, and space them at 20-30cm apart.  Allow 12-14 weeks to reach full size but individual leaves can be picked when younger. 

EAT: try braising with olive oil and garlic and serve with chops for a winter feast. Add very young leaves to salads. This nutritious veg can also be boiled or steamed.  They are ideal for cooking in a stew as they do not disintegrate.
