Squash Galeux D’Eysines

£1.75

This is a very distinctive French heirloom, the pale peach coloured skin gradually develops peanut shell like knobs created by the build-up of sugar. The more knobs, the sweeter the squash!  3 seeds

SOW & GROW: between late April to the end of May, start 1 seed per pot or module. Sometimes, as the seeds sprout you may need to gently help the first leaves escape case if they appear above the compost with the seed case still in place. Keep moist but not waterlogged. Harden off and plant out after all danger of frost has passed. In cooler areas you can protect young plants with cloches until they have settled in. After harvesting in late summer leave the squashes outdoors for about 14 days to harden the skin for storing or ripen them in a greenhouse (protect from frost).

EAT: The more knobs the sweeter the squash but if few knobs appear simply store for a few months in a frost free place and they will develop a sweeter flavour.
