Aspindale's 'WITHAMDALE', Restored by ANDREW DAVIS - SCARCE

Not in stock

Aspindale's 'WITHAMDALE', beautifully restored by revered master rodmaker ANDREW DAVIS. SCARCE 14ft 3 piece Avocet/Wizard style pattern with Japanese female whole cane butt, long 30'' cork handle, split cane middle and top (middle hollow built for lightness). Whipped in bottle green SILK with agatine lined butt and tip rings complimented by new 'high bells' stand-off rings. The original ultra fine hand written model details on the butt are complete, pristine and reads,

'Dalesman Regd. The 'WITHAMDALE' Special 14ft by Jas Aspindale & Sons Redditch Eng.'

Unbelievably, QVT were advised by proprietor Peter Aspindale that all these trademark 'fine italic' inscriptions on Aspindale rods were done with a brush!

It is unclear precisely why this example is designated 'Special' , however, it was originally whipped in solid bottle green and not adorned with contrasting silk 'tipping' as was standard on this model and thus the solid green livery may have been a 'Special Order'. As far as can be ascertained, the 'WITHAMDALE' is the only 14ft rod in the 'Avocet/Wizard' conformation ever produced by any maker and is RARELY found. Presented in maker's original bag with fine undamaged trademark embroidered label. Relatively light at 13 ¾ ounces. Usable and collectable and a better example would be difficult to envisage.
