Main Bearing - Timing Side Twin Ball Bearing : Model 30M/40M (Manx) - C3

Product no.: 0021 A11M/31
Twin row caged ball bearing. Fitted to Model 30M/40M (Manx) SOHC engines. This bearing as it was originally manufactured (with bronze cage) is now obsolete and unobtainable in original '3 spot' specification. The C3\3-spot version is really an essential specification, as this means a looser tolerence than normal bearings - very important on Norton engines to ensure the bearings do not spin in their housings. I offer the modern version of this bearing, which is still by a top specification bearing manufacturer - NSK (originally Hoffman) in correct '3 spot'\C3 version, however, it is now manufactured using a nylon cage. Although high quality, care must be taken with these when fitting and soldering the bearing retaining plate over them, to ensure the cage is not melted. Other than that, they are just the same as the originals. I will also be fitting them to my own Manx engined bikes in future - I dont think there is much option (Note - one way of lessoning the risk is to lightly solder bearing plate and screws before fitting them, then less heat is required to join them, as they are already 'tinned') January 2011: I now have this item back in stock with a limited quantity - not sure if they will make any more once these are gone.

SOHC Model 30M and DOHC Manx Big End Assembly (No Nuts)

Product no.: 0072 A11M/27

- Manufactured by a well established British bearing supplier, these twin row caged roller bigends are made as per the original design (Like the International variety, I use them in my own bikes). - Fitted to Model 30M (Longstroke Manx type) and Pre 1962 (non-lipped) DOHC Shortstroke Manx's, these Bigends are narrower than International Bigend assemblies, which can be seen in the second photograph for comparison - Note: These Manx Bigend units are supplied without nuts. Earlier Manx Bigends (all SOHC\DOHC magnesium cased pre-featerhbed engines and earlier Featherbed engines) used large 47mm AF Hex Nuts. Later shortstroke DOHC engines used castellated nuts. I can supply both types. If you are not sure if your flywheels should be using Hex nuts - look for the 'Mickey Mouse ear' cutaways, for grub screws (see 3rd photograph), which signify it was fitted with Hex nuts. Wherever possible, if the engine was fitted with these larger nuts, you should try and refit them, as they provide a larger surface area than castellated or International nuts.

SOHC/Early DOHC Manx Hexagonal Big End Nut

Product no.: 0072b A11M/27HN

These Hexagonal nuts are the correct item fitted to all magnesium crankcased SOHC and early DOHC racing engines and are made as per the original design - i.e. 47mm Across Flats . This larger diameter nut allowed more 'holding area' than the small International nuts, probably because the Manx pins had less depth. - Price is 'per nut' - If you are not sure what type of nuts your engine should be fitted with : Earlier Manx Bigends (all SOHC\DOHC magnesium cased pre-featerhbed engines and earlier Featherbed engines) used large 47mm AF Hex Nuts. Later shortstroke DOHC engines used castellated nuts. I can supply both types. If you are not sure if your flywheels should be using Hex nuts - look for the 'Mickey Mouse ear' cutaways, for grub screws (see 2nd photograph), which signify it was fitted with Hex nuts. Wherever possible, if the engine was fitted with these larger nuts, you should try and refit them, as they provide a larger surface area than castellated or International nuts.

DOHC Manx Castellated Big End Nut

Product no.: 0072c A11M/27CN

Product no.: 0072d A11M/27L

This is the twin row caged roller bigend assembly fitted to the later (Post 61) DOHC, it being of the lipped outer ring variety. It can also be fitted to earlier DOHC shortstroke Manx Nortons if required. - It is used in conjunction with thrustwasher on the reverse side, to reduce side thrust. I have this type fitted to my '55 Doubleknocker (see 2nd photograph) - Note: Manx Bigends are normally supplied without castellated nuts, but this Bigend came already 'hot-dipped' in grease with the nuts on, so the price quoted includes the nuts

Hone and Fit Bigend Into Conrod

Product no.: 0072e Hone
Select this item if you wish to purchase a BigEnd from me, but would like me to press it into your conrod, and then finish hone it to size for you. Having ordered the BigEnd from me, if you post me your original conrod (please ensure it is sent by insured post), I will then press out your old bigend eye, press in the new bigend eye, and then finally I will hone the BigEnd eye to ensure it has the correct tolerence restored. (This is because pressing the outer ring into the conrod will normally close it up by an additional thou or two). The honing will be carried out on a Delapena Speedhone, which is a specialist honing machine designed to do this job.. Please Note: The price quoted does not include the postage back to you for the conrod and new Bigend. However, as always I will only charge for the actual cost of postage - I do not make any profit on postage

SOHC Crankcase Union/Oil Filter 1/4" BSP Copper Washer - Pack of 3

Product no.: 0090b E5264-C1
- 1/4" BSP Copper Washer - pack of 3. This washer is suitable for use in 3 places - the main Oil pipe unions that screw into the crankcase (see second photograph), the Oil filter bolt that fits at the base of the timing case chamber or the sump plug screw. This washer is annealed (hence the none shiny appearance) and is therefore soft and suitable for this application. It is also slightly wider than normal making it suitable for each of the applications described here. However, for the drive side one way valve, or the straight through breathers/unions fitted to the SOHC Manx timing case, cambox oil pipe or front breather union (if fitted) - you might find the slimmer 0090c E5264-C2 is more suitable (or use an alternative fibre washer). This washer is sold as a pack of 3 (sorry they are not cheap - this is because they are specials and annealed)

SOHC Breather and One Way Valve Copper Washer- Pack of 3

- 1/4" BSP Copper Washer - pack of 3. This washer is suitable for use in 3 places - the Drive Side One Way Valve and the straight through breather or unions fitted to SOHC crankcase fittings and cambox. These washers are not quite as wide as item 0090b, and therefore look less obtrusive when fitted behind these unions (you may decide though you prefer to fit red fibre washers which we also sell). These can also be fitted to 1/4 BSP petrol taps. Sold as a pack of 3

Model 30/40 Main Bearing Securing Plate

Product no.: 0285 A11/34
3 screw mainshaft bearing securing plate, to fit all Model 30 and Model 40 International (and CS1/CJ) engines. This pressed steel plate was used to retain the main bearings and ensure they did not 'walk' under heavy use. The plate was secured by 3 screws (sold seperately), which were soldered to the plate after tightening, to ensure they do not come lose. This plate is copied from an original item. Note: this plate fits all International crankcases after approximately 1932. before that time a shallower plate was used. If you are not sure - measure the lip of the main bearing housing ( see second photo), if it sits approx. 0.225" above the crankcase wall it is for this plate. If it measures approximately 0.175" above crankcase - then the very early securing plate is required (see Item no 0287). The late type crankcase is on the left in the 3rd photo

Model 30/40 Main Bearing Securing Plate - Pre 1933

Product no.: 0287 1X49e
This is the shallower type of Model 30/40 main bearing plate that was fitted to very early Cammy engines - I believe prior to 1933 (although I cannot be exactly sure when the lip was made larger). I confess - it was only a year or so ago that I realised earlier bearing covers were different to the more common type (Item 0285). . . but a customer told me his original was different to the later type I had sent him. If you have an early engine and are not sure which type you need, then measure how far the bearing lip stands proud of the inner crankcase wall (as In photo 2) - if it sits approx. 0.225" above the crankcase wall then you need the later type (Item no 0285). If it measures approximately 0.175" above crankcase then you have the early type crankcase and you need this bearing cover. The early type crankcase is on the right on the 3rd photograph. (sorry this one more expensive - but have had to pay for tooling for a much smaller batch)

SOHC Mainshaft Bevel Gear - International Engines

Product no.: 0422 A11/748

They are manufactured for me by a specialist helical gear manufacturer in the UK and are very high quality. Photograph 1 shows the gear from front and rear. Photograph 2 shows an original Norton gear at the top of the photograph and our gears underneath. Photograph 3 shows the International bevel gear on the left, with the shallower SOHC Manx gear on the right. The International gear was fitted to all Aluminium crankcase engines. The gear has PVN branding etched on the rear. Note: 17/11 - we will shortly be offering Oldham couplings and upper bevel gears as well

These gears have been faithfully reproduced using original Norton gears as the pattern and are identical in all dimensions, including the tooth profile, so they can be used in conjunction with original lower vertical bevel gears if you already have one of these. They are manufactured for me by a specialist helical gear manufacturer in the UK and are very high quality. Photograph 1 shows the gear from front and rear.
