Here is a wonderful and highly unusual  Sterling silver brooch by the Swedish designer Vivianna Torun Bülow Hübe for Georg Jensen.  Better known as Torun, this  world famous Swedish designer (1927 -2004)  has her own Wikepedia page, . She worked with Georg Jensen from 1969, introducing and developing many iconic designs such as the Vivianna watch, the Mobius , Dewdrop  and Forget-me-knot series.  This brooch, knotted in the centre, is made from one continuous piece of silver.

Here is a delightful Sterling silver bird brooch designed by Arno Malinowski for Georg Jensen. In this Art Deco design Malinowski has combined his much loved chubby bird motif with that of the leaves seen in his heart brooch, but here the leaves break out of the round frame of the bottom. This is a rare piece, as it has not been in production for several decades.

New Ola Gorie Sterling silver Sjusta brooch

Here is a fabulous Sterling silver brooch by the distinguished silversmith Ola Gorie, based on the Scottish northern islands of Orkney (see bio).  Invaded by the Vikings in the 8th century, these islands were under Norwegian rule until 1472, leaving many traces, influences and links.  This brooch is called Sjusta and the design is based on a pattern of interlaced snakes carved on a Viking rune stone in Sjusta, Uppland, Sweden.

The design is a traditional trefoil knot.which harks back to the Celtic symbol for the natural forces of earth, water and air. It was later adopted by Christianity to represent the holy Trinity. This exceptional silver floral brooch was made by the Danish silversmithy Fir. Munksgaard, whose workshop was registered in Fåborg until 1973.  The design harks back to the Art Deco period, when motifs were often set within a frame. Here however the frame is softly rounded and the tendrils hae 'escaped' to curl around the frame.

Here is a wonderful bunch of flowers in a rectangular frame.  This design was much loved in the 1940s and 1950s in Denmark, and produced by a number of different silversmiths, including Grann and Laglye. David Andersen's 1960s "Saga" series included of copies of prehistoric finds deposited in the Oslo historical museum.  The original of this brooch was found  on the Kvarberg Hill near Vågå in central Norway..  The trefoil design first seen on Frankish warrior sword belts, but  it was adopted by the Norse  and adapted for use as brooches on women's costumes and with animal decoration. such as the gripping beasts seen here

Anton Michelsen Eigil Jensen Boomerang brooch

Here is a famous brooch, much copied in smaller versions. The cool clear lines of the metal will appeal to all lovers of Modernism. It is called Boomerang for obvious reasons, and is so large that it could almost be used as such! It was created by Eigil Jensen, a silversmith who joined Anton Michelsen in 1943 and stayed for 40 YEARs, rising to the post of Production Manager. Although designed in the 1950s, this brooch may have been produced later, as it was very popular.

The daisy has been made in several sizes, and this example is the largest and features one double petal with a line of silver gilt down the middle. The Marguerite daisy is the national flower of Denmark.

 This example is an early original Anton Michelsen piece.
