New Georg Jensen Harald Nielsen Sterling silver brooch 266

Product no.: 1596

Here is a large rectangular brooch in a delicate Art Deco design by Harald Nielsen for the Danish silversmithy Georg Jensen. Harald Nielsen was the brother of Jensen’s third wife Johanne, and he joined the firm in 1909, aged 17. He helped to establish the Jensen style and the firm’s tradition for outstanding quality. In the 1920s he designed jewellery, flatware and hollowware, many, as this brooch,  still in production 50 years later. There is a notable stylistic development during the course of this decade, which started with the naturalistic organic forms of the Danish Art Nouveau or Skønvirke, and ended with the stricter more streamlined forms of Art Deco. After Georg Jensen’s death in 1935, Nielsen became the artistic leader of the company.

Georg Jensen Malinowski Cockerel Brooch, no 276

Arno Malinowski was one of the most versatile and successful designers who ever worked for the Georg Jensen Silver smithy. He designed for Georg Jensen from 1936 to 1944, and again from 1949 to 1965. Most Jensen lovers are familiar with his Art Deco stylised animal broochs such as the kneeling deer, the two dolphins , the butterflies and the chubby birds. This cockerel is hardly ever seen on the re-sale market, and even rarer is this example produced at the time of its deisgn, sometime between 1936 and 1944. This is a very rare collector's piece.
